Tyler Herro could land with Detroit in Giannis trade talks

Tyler Herro is now part of a wider Giannis Antetokounmpo trade structure, with Detroit listed as a possible third team and a fit the Pistons could target. The move would put Detroit in the same conversation as Portland, which had long been viewed as the likeliest middle team in the deal.

Marc Stein reported that Detroit should be monitored in that role. The Pistons are looking for a secondary shot creator and shooter next to Cade Cunningham, and Herro was described as a perfect fit for that need.

Detroit and Portland

The framework matters because Herro has long been projected to head to Milwaukee in an Antetokounmpo deal, but this version would reroute him again. In that structure, the Bucks would flip him to Detroit, while the Pistons would likely send back picks and could include Ron Holland, Marcus Sasser or Caris LeVert.

Portland still sits at the center of the earlier version of the trade idea. The Bucks would like some of Portland's future first-round picks back, which is why that path had carried momentum before Detroit entered the picture.

Cade Cunningham's backcourt

Detroit's interest is easy to read from the roster fit. Cunningham needs another creator who can score without forcing the ball out of his hands, and Herro gives the Pistons a guard who can handle both the shot-making and the spacing on the same possession.

If Detroit misses on Herro or Austin Reaves, the other names tied to that search are Coby White, Isaiah Joe and Zach LaVine. That keeps the Pistons in the market for a guard upgrade even if the Antetokounmpo structure shifts back toward Portland.

June 23 deadline

The timing is tight. The NBA Draft is four days away, free agency starts in 11 days, and the Bucks want the Antetokounmpo situation wrapped up by June 23. Miami remains the frontrunner if Milwaukee follows that plan, so Detroit's place in the trade is the variable that could still move the board.
