Scottie Scheffler said Meredith Scheffler does more of the heavy lifting at home so he can stay locked in on golf during U.S. Open week. The arrangement comes as the couple raise Bennett and Remy, and he framed it as part of what makes his career possible.
Meredith Scheffler and golf
“It takes a lot of work for me to be able to do this for a living and it’s a lot of sacrifice for [Meredith]. To be able to celebrate those moments for both of us is really cool,” Scheffler said. That is the center of the story here: while he prepares for a major, Meredith is carrying more of the daily load at home.
He said the tradeoff is practical, not abstract. More work at home for her means more time for him to practice, compete, and keep his attention on golf during a demanding week. He also said he often cuts practice short to spend time with Meredith and their two young toddlers.
Bennett and Remy at home
The family timeline helps explain the balance. Bennett arrived in May of 2024, and Remy joined the family in March of this year. Scheffler said he and Meredith met in high school, started dating in their senior year, and exchanged vows in 2020.
He has also described the children in direct, ordinary terms that fit the same picture. “Bennett is hilarious. ” He’s just your typical little boy,” he revealed. “He loves cars and trucks and dirt. He loves golf, he loves sports, and I look forward to just being able to be there and experience those things with him.”
Scheffler’s winning view
The complication is the one top athletes know well: even a big result does not stop the next morning. “I could feel I was kind of rambling, and I was kind of like, ‘Oh man, [I hope] I didn’t say anything a little stupid.’ I was just trying to communicate, yes, I love competition,” he said. “But I think, once you accomplish something, you wake up the morning after and you’re like, ‘Okay, I still have to get breakfast.’ Life still goes on.”
That is why his focus at the U.S. Open lands so clearly on home as well as golf. “Immediately when the season ends, the first thing I want to do is just spend the time at home,” Scheffler said, putting a timetable on what comes after the tournament grind and the travel around it.
