Donegal GAA let a three-point cushion slip at Croke Park. Ryan McHugh’s effort drifted wide when Donegal had a chance to extend the lead, and Dublin kept the contest tight through the first 42 minutes of All-Ireland Senior Football Championship round three.
Dublin then built from the resulting kick-out and worked the ball around the Donegal defensive arc. Cormac Costello pulled his effort wide when he had a chance to level matters, but he later converted a free in front of the Davin Stand after Brian Howard was brought to ground around 15 metres from goal.
Croke Park Pressure
Ciarán Kilkenny added another point after gliding past Finnbarr Roarty, while Finnbarr Roarty had already struck the post before landing his first score of the afternoon. Substitute Ryan McHugh also scored a point for Donegal, keeping the match inside one score as both sides traded misses and conversions.
Caolan McGonagle then hit the upright after Finnbar Roarty picked him out, and Paddy Small’s effort drifted wide after Dublin broke upfield. That sequence kept Donegal from pulling away when they had momentum and a three-point cushion at one stage.
Donegal Chances
With 42 minutes played, Conor O'Donnell missed a chance to restore Donegal’s three-point advantage. The pattern through the opening spell was clear: every missed finish invited a response, and the small margins kept Dublin in touch at Croke Park.
Donegal’s advantage was never allowed to settle. One point at a time, Dublin answered the pressure, and the match moved toward the next decisive spell with neither side giving up control for long.
