Boca Juniors have told Marcelo Saracchi he is not part of their plans for next season, leaving the 28-year-old defender heading into a transfer window with his loan at Celtic ending this month. He had been expected to return to Argentina on July 1, but that route has now been closed off by the club that owns his rights.
Boca Juniors and Saracchi
Rodolfo Arruabarrena delivered the message to Saracchi, who made 19 league appearances for Celtic last season and started 11 of them as a substitute. The decision removes any ambiguity around his standing at Boca Juniors and puts his immediate future back on the market.
That matters because Boca Juniors need to free up a spot for a new foreign player, and Saracchi is the one they have chosen to sacrifice. The timing is tight: his loan deal ends this month, so he is now moving from a loan spell back into a search for a new club almost immediately.
Celtic and Europe
Reports from South America say he will have to train alone and will not join the first team. If that happens, the practical effect is simple: he would be outside the main group while Boca Juniors wait on the foreign-player slot they want to open.
There is already interest from other European teams in another loan deal, which gives Saracchi at least one clear route away from Argentina. For now, though, the only firm outcome is that Boca Juniors have ruled him out for next season, and the next move belongs to the player and the clubs circling him.
