Bologna have shown interest in Jaden Philogene, putting the 24-year-old Ipswich Town winger back into transfer focus. Any move would start from a high bar: Ipswich paid north of £20m for him around 18 months ago, and he is under contract until the summer of 2029.
Jaden Philogene Attracts Bologna
Italian transfer expert Nicolo Schira reported that Bologna have shown interest in Philogene, and the link arrives as Ipswich prepare for another Premier League season after returning at the first time of asking. Philogene is one of the most saleable players in the Town squad, which is why the market is reacting to him now rather than later.
He is not a speculative name on the edge of the group. Last season, he scored 12 goals and added two assists in 35 Championship games for Ipswich Town, numbers that explain why European football clubs are paying attention to him.
Portman Road Fee Barrier
The fee is the complication. Ipswich’s outlay around 18 months ago means any buyer would have to go well past a routine offer, and that is before the length of his contract is considered. A club that wants him has to make the numbers work against a deal that still runs to the summer of 2029.
Besiktas have also been credited with interest, so Bologna are not operating alone in the chase. That leaves Town with a familiar transfer test: decide whether a strong Championship season and a long contract make Philogene untouchable, or whether a large bid changes the calculation.
Bologna And Jon Rowe
Bologna finished eighth last season and narrowly missed out on European football, with Jon Rowe as their current starting left winger. Any move for Philogene would have to fit that squad picture as well as the price tag, which is why interest and a completed transfer are still very different things.
For Ipswich, the immediate issue is simple. Philogene remains tied to the club, but Bologna’s interest puts a major value check on one of their newer assets, and the next move will be judged against the fee they paid and the production he delivered in the Championship.
