Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service tackles Penketh oven blaze, two assessed — Widnes Fire

Two fire engines came from Penketh fire station and Widnes fire station and were sent to Sandy Lane in Penketh yesterday afternoon, Sunday. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put out the oven fire with a hose reel jet.

The property was then ventilated with a high-pressure fan. Those steps suggest the fire was not left to burn out on its own; crews first stopped the fire at the source, then cleared lingering smoke from inside the building.

All persons were accounted for after the incident, but firefighters still assessed two casualties for smoke inhalation. That leaves the immediate issue less about missing occupants and more about whether anyone needed further attention after exposure to smoke inside the property.

The service said the fire began in an oven, but the cause of that oven fire was not given. For anyone inside the property, the practical point is that the fire was contained the same day and the air inside was cleared before crews left.

What remains with the incident is the question of what caused the oven fire in the first place.
