Two fire engines from Penketh fire station and Widnes fire station were dispatched to the address yesterday afternoon. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to put out the oven fire, then used a high-pressure fan to clear smoke from inside the property.

All persons were accounted for after the response. The assessment of two casualties shows that smoke spread beyond the oven itself and left firefighters checking the people inside before they left the scene.

The fire service did not say whether either casualty needed further treatment after being assessed. For anyone in the property, the immediate step after a smoke-related incident is a medical check if symptoms continue, even once the fire is out and the building has been ventilated.
