Martin Odegaard Sale Talk Grows as Arsenal Weigh 2028 Deal

Arsenal are being linked with a possible summer sale of Odegaard for the right price, even though Martin Odegaard is the captain and is under contract until 2028. The talk cuts across what looked like a settled position in north London and has now reached clubs in Italy.

The numbers behind his case are strong. Since joining from Real Madrid in 2021, he has made 234 games for Arsenal and produced 88 goal contributions. In the title-winning season, he managed one goal and eight assists in 36 games in all competitions, but the 2025/26 campaign brought niggling injuries and spells where he was not always first choice under Mikel Arteta.

Arteta And Andrea Berta

That is why the idea of a sale has moved beyond idle talk. Mikel Arteta has already made his feelings known to Andrea Berta, while Arteta has no desire to see him depart this summer. The manager still has faith in him, and Odegaard believes he has a future in north London and intends to commit by signing a new contract beyond 2028.

Paul Merson put the situation bluntly on the Sports Agents podcast: “It’s madness for me to be saying this, but they probably will be thinking about that [selling Odegaard].” He added: “But for me, I still think there’ll be teams queuing round the block for him… When you play in the position that Odegaard plays in, you’re screaming out for pace up front. You have to have pace.”

Italy Interest In Odegaard

Sami Mokbel said on the Latte Firm podcast: “There have been some whispers over the summer that Arsenal might be interested in letting Martin Odegaard go for the right price.” Those whispers have not stayed in one place. Inter Milan and Juventus have been alerted to his situation, and intermediaries have sounded out interest from Italy.

The contradiction is obvious. The sale talk has grown, but sources close to the player and Arsenal have dismissed suggestions that he is looking to leave, saying he wants to extend his deal rather than walk away. That leaves Arsenal with the real decision point: whether the right price is enough to move on their skipper, or whether Odegaard stays at the center of their summer plan.
