England Can Clinch Round of 32; Group L Standings Shift Tuesday

England can move into the Round of 32 on Tuesday, June 23, if it beats Ghana. The group l standings can tighten fast, because a draw does not clinch knockout qualification for England.

England and Ghana

A win gives England more than entry to the next round. It can also win Group L if Panama loses or draws against Croatia, turning the 4:00 p.m. Eastern match into the clearest path to the top of the group.

Ghana has the same basic opening. It can clinch a spot in the Round of 32 with a win over England, and it can win Group L if it beats England and Croatia loses or draws against Panama.

Panama and Croatia

The second match of the day can still shake the bracket before the night is over. Croatia can be eliminated with a loss to Panama if Ghana draws or beats England, while Panama can be eliminated with a loss to Croatia if England draws or beats Ghana.

That makes the 7:00 p.m. Eastern match a direct pressure point for both teams. The early result in England and Ghana can set up who still has a live path by kickoff, while the later result can settle whether one side survives Tuesday at all.

Group L and Group K

Group L and Group K round out the second set of matches in group play on Tuesday. England is fresh off a command performance against Croatia, but this round is about finishing the job rather than carrying momentum forward.

Later in Group L play, Panama vs. England is listed for 5:00 p.m. Eastern, and Croatia vs. Ghana is listed for 5:00 p.m. Eastern. If the top of the group stays tight after Tuesday, those remaining matches become the place where the standings can separate cleanly, especially if teams finish level on points and the group has to be sorted by the tiebreaker process.
