Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign Martin Dubravka on a free transfer. Burnley’s 37-year-old goalkeeper is due out of contract on June 30, and Tottenham want to move before that deadline closes the door on a fee-free deal.
Dubravka’s Burnley deal
Dubravka played 35 matches for Burnley this campaign, which gives Tottenham a clear read on his workload and availability. He is a Slovakia international and previously spent a loan spell at Manchester United, so this would be a move for an experienced keeper rather than a short-term stopgap.
The timing is the point. Tottenham can add a senior goalkeeper without paying a transfer fee, and that matters with other summer business already in motion around the squad.
Kinsky and Vicario pressure
Antonin Kinsky is in a strong position to become Tottenham’s new number one next season, while Guglielmo Vicario is tipped to leave Tottenham this summer. If that happens, Tottenham would have Kinsky, Dubravka and Brandon Austin as senior goalkeepers.
That is the structure behind the move. Tottenham would not be buying Dubravka to settle the entire goalkeeping picture on his own; they would be adding competition and depth around Kinsky at a point when the first-choice role is already shifting.
Summer business around Tottenham
Dubravka would be Tottenham’s third free transfer signing of the summer after Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi. The club have also spent £52million on Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke, held talks with Newcastle over Sandro Tonali that could cost around £100million, and shown interest in West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes and Manchester City winger Savinho.
That wider picture explains why a free transfer matters so much. If Tottenham can finish Dubravka’s deal before June 30, they add another senior option without trimming the budget for the larger moves still on their list. Will Tottenham complete the move before Burnley’s contract deadline arrives?
