Blackweir Live moved first for The Cure Cardiff. Organisers issued a heat warning advisory before the Wednesday evening concert at Blackweir Fields in Cardiff, then put extra welfare measures in place for people heading to the site.
The Blackweir Facebook page said attendees could take 2 x 500ml sealed bottles of water per person into the festival. Shaded areas, free refill stations, plastic refillable bottles, mini fans and an enhanced welfare team presence were all listed for the event.
Met Office heat warning
Transport for Wales and Network Rail then added the rail warning: the Met Office red extreme heat warning runs from 09:00 on Wednesday 24 June to 21:00 on Thursday 25 June across parts of south Wales, the Midlands and Southern England. Temperatures could reach up to 38°C, and the warning said extreme heat was likely to cause significant disruption to train services.
That puts concert travel under pressure at the same time as the show itself. The Cure event at Blackweir Fields in Cardiff on Wednesday 24 June meant queuing systems would be in place at key stations, and services to coastal destinations were expected to be very busy.
Tickets for Wednesday and Thursday
Passengers with Tickets for Wednesday 24 June or Thursday 25 June could use them on Friday 26 June if they no longer wished to travel on the original dates. They could also travel earlier than their scheduled travel time on those dates.
Refunds were available from the point of purchase if the claim was made before 23:59 on the day before the ticket's date. For anyone going to Blackweir Fields in Cardiff, the message is simple: carry water, expect slower station flow and build extra time into the trip rather than assuming the rail plan will run to schedule.
