England Round of 32 is already secured before Thomas Tuchel takes his side into Panama in New York at 22:00 BST. The final Group L match now shapes where England finish and who they meet next, not whether they go through.

Tuchel Turns To Chalobah

Tuchel said in his pre-Panama news conference that he was happy with calling up Trevoh Chalobah in place of the injured Tino Livramento. He also said that move freed Jarell Quansah as a full-back option, leaving England with another route if he shuffles the back line.

That matters because Tuchel has already pointed to Djed Spence and Ezri Konsa for that position. Spence has played for the Three Lions at the 2026 World Cup at left-back, while Konsa has played at centre-back, so the choice against Panama sits across more than one part of the defence.

Group L Still Has Weight

England go into the final group-stage game knowing a draw will be enough to confirm them as Group L winners if Ghana and Croatia also draw. If England win on Saturday, only a big victory for Ghana would knock them off top spot, and Ghana would have to exceed England's winning margin by two goals.

That leaves the bracket picture alive even after qualification. If England win their group and DR Congo qualify in third, England will meet DR Congo in the last 32, while as it stands Senegal will play Tuchel's side.

Saka And Rashford

Alan Shearer said that it is time for Saka and Rashford to start. His call adds another selection layer for Tuchel, who is balancing the back line with a question over who leads the attack in New York.

England are already through, but the Panama match still carries real weight. Group position will decide the last-32 route, and Tuchel's lineup will show whether he leans on the defensive cover he has just added or changes the forward line as well.
