Christian Fuchs has resigned as Newport County manager after seven months in charge. The move comes on the eve of pre-season, with players due back on Monday and the club now facing another reset before the 2026-27 season begins.
Newport County on the eve of pre-season
Newport County said Fuchs made the decision to step away from his role as manager. The club added: "Newport County can confirm Christian Fuchs has made the decision to step away from his role as manager".
Its statement also said: "Everyone at Newport County would like to thank Christian for his hard work, commitment and professionalism, and wish him every success for the future."
He arrived last November to replace David Hughes and stayed long enough to steer Newport County through survival in May. On the last day of the season, the club avoided relegation from the Football League, then moved into pre-season with a different manager leaving the building.
Rodney Parade turns over again
The timing sharpens the problem at Rodney Parade. Huw Jenkins is now searching for a fourth manager during his ownership, after Graham Coughlan, Nelson Jardim and David Hughes all left before Fuchs.
That makes this the third successive summer with a managerial change at Newport County. The club has already added six signings for the new campaign, while Bobby Kamwa and Matt Baker have gone at the end of their contracts, so the squad will report on Monday with the shape of the group still changing.
Newport County’s schedule is already set from the weekend of 8 August, when it opens the 2026-27 season with a Carabao Cup game at AFC Wimbledon. A week later, Rochdale arrive for the League Two opener, and the club now has to line up a new boss before those dates start to bite.
Fuchs helped Newport County get through May. His exit before pre-season leaves the next manager to pick up the same job with less time and a shorter runway.
