Ryan Finnigan has joined Dundee from Blackpool for an undisclosed fee, adding a 22-year-old central midfielder to the squad. The move still depends on the relevant international clearance before he can be fully settled in.
Dundee’s year-long chase
Dundee Football Club had tracked Finnigan for over a year before getting the deal done, and the club said its recruitment team put in 12 months of work to bring him in. That long pursuit helps explain why this move was treated as more than a routine addition.
He arrives after a successful loan at Walsall and after coming through Southampton’s academy. Dundee also said there was considerable interest from clubs in England before he chose to move to Dens Park, which is where the transfer gained its edge.
Finnigan on the move
Finnigan said he was delighted to be joining Dundee and that his first conversations with the Manager and David made it clear how they saw him fitting into the team. He added that visiting Dundee and hearing the vision for the future made the decision an easy one.
“I’m excited for this new challenge, can’t wait to meet my teammates and the supporters, and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Clearance before the handover
The deal is not fully complete until the relevant international clearance is in place. Until then, Dundee has the player on the books but not the clean administrative handover that lets the club move on with him without delay.
That leaves the next step tied to paperwork rather than football. Finnigan has already signalled he wants to get going, and Dundee has already shown it values him as a long-term target with a huge ceiling.
