John Terry called Piers Morgan a liar after Cristiano Ronaldo praised Morgan’s abs. The jab landed after Ronaldo had come through a very tough week, one that ended with two goals in Portugal’s 5-0 win on Tuesday.
Piers Morgan and Cristiano Ronaldo
Morgan had already set the tone on Sport Uncensored, saying: "I think he's an unbelievable role model because he shows you age is a number, he's 41 and he's got the body of a 30-year-old." He also said, "He conducts himself impeccably. He looks great for 41, he looks better than you do [Simon Jordan]."
His line on Ronaldo did not stop there. Morgan said his pinned tweet on X is a clip from Ronaldo saying, "yeah you have good abdominals," and that exchange became the hook Terry used to swing back.
John Terry's response
Terry answered with a blunt line: "He's a top player and a f******* liar as well." The comment turned a light exchange into a direct hit at Morgan, while still keeping Ronaldo at the center of the story.
That matters because Ronaldo was already being judged on performance, not personality. Before Tuesday, he had faced criticism after Portugal’s draw with DR Congo, where he had 25 touches and three shots, and none of those efforts tested Lionel Mpasi-Nzau.
Ronaldo answers on Tuesday
Ronaldo’s reply on the pitch was immediate. He scored a well-taken double in Portugal’s 5-0 win and said, "I can tell you it was a very tough week, a difficult week, a week in which public opinion was very harsh on us, all the players, especially the coach," before adding, "Whenever things go well, 'Cristiano is good'; when things go badly, 'he's retired, he's old'. It will always be like that. But it was a good response for me and my team-mates."
He went further: "I always get there. Maybe late, but I'm there." For now, Terry’s line hangs as the sharpest off-field note in the exchange, and it sits beside Ronaldo’s on-field answer rather than replacing it. Did Terry mean Morgan was lying about the compliment, or was he joking more broadly?
