Chicago Pride Parade Chicago 2026 is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, with barriers already going up along the route on Saturday and officers working days off and extended days. The 55th annual parade arrives with a shortened route, fewer entries and security steps in place before the crowd fills Chicago.

Officials expect hundreds of thousands of people to attend, and the theme for the 55th annual parade is free to be proud. Cooling buses will be stationed nearby because it is expected to be hot on Sunday, adding another layer to the planning around the route.
The parade’s setup shows how the city is handling a large public gathering before it starts. Barriers on Saturday, officers working extra time and the reduced route all point to an event designed to keep movement controlled from the first step off.
North Side Queer Pride weekend
The same weekend also included the Jarvis Block Party in Rogers Park, hosted by North Side Queer Pride at Jarvis Avenue and Greenview Avenue. Mercy B'Luv, a Second City Sisters member, told attendees, “And, it's so wonderful to see this community come out and just celebrate and show their true colors,” as people filled the streets in rainbow colors.
Sister Michelle Redacted, also with Second City Sisters, said, “And, it's really hard for people across the city to get to one centralized event. So, having something in the neighborhood that brings together community... is what we need right now,” while the block party featured food, music and pop-ups from queer-owned businesses for all ages.
For readers heading to Sunday’s parade, the practical shift is simple: the start time stays at 11 a.m., but the route is shorter and the parade list is smaller than planned, so arrivals should be built around tighter street controls and a larger security presence.
