NASCAR results at Sonoma Raceway spilled beyond the track on Friday night, when fans headed to the 50-acre campground across Highway 121 after the General Tire 150. The weekend crowd kept the June visit moving in RVs and tents, with campers allowed to stay until Monday.
Josh Eele Returns to 50 Acres
Josh Eele made the trip from Gresham, Oregon, for his sixth year camping at the raceway. His stay fit the pattern that has made 50 Acres part of the event itself: arrive for the race, settle in for the weekend, and remain on site through Monday.
The campground sits across Highway 121 from Sonoma Raceway, which keeps the fan base close to the action without putting everyone inside the track gates. That layout has turned the lot into a separate gathering point during NASCAR's annual June visit to Sears Point.
Flags at Sonoma Raceway
Vehicles in the campground flew flags for Kyle Larson, Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney. The display gives the lot its own race-weekend identity, with the campground serving as a second venue for the same fan base that packed the road course on Friday night.
Rob Hartman and Nathan Hughes, both from Carson City, Nevada, were among the campers who stayed in the lot. Their presence added to the out-of-state mix that has become part of the campground scene around the General Tire 150.
From General Tire 150 to Monday
The setup has also changed over time. The campground is described as a lively fan destination, but it is now more subdued than it used to be, and no off-road vehicles are allowed. That leaves RVs and tents as the main way fans use the space during the weekend.
So the practical answer for campers is simple: 50 Acres is the place to land after Friday night, and Monday is the cutoff. How many fans were camping there this weekend was not spelled out, but the lot remained active enough to feel like part of NASCAR's stop at Sonoma Raceway rather than a separate campsite far from the race.
