Wizards of the Coast bans 2 cards in Mtg Banned And Restricted Announcement

Wizards of the Coast used its MTG banned and restricted announcement to ban Candelabra of Tawnos in Legacy and Seeker of Skybreak in Pauper, with both changes taking effect immediately. The update also left The Fantasticar in Vintage untouched and made no changes to Standard today.

The move lands on two formats at once. In Pauper, Seeker of Skybreak had a line with Hawkeye’s Bow that could win on turn three, and with some fast mana on turn two. In Legacy, Candelabra of Tawnos can go infinite with the Tron lands, which put Colorless Tron decks in the frame.

Candelabra of Tawnos in Legacy

Candelabra of Tawnos is the Legacy card most directly tied to deck engine concerns in this announcement. Wizards of the Coast said the ban applies today, so players using that card in Legacy must adjust immediately.

The issue around the card centers on the Tron lands. The source says Candelabra of Tawnos can go infinite with them, giving the format a piece that can push a deck past normal resource limits without delay.

Seeker of Skybreak in Pauper

Seeker of Skybreak was banned in Pauper effective immediately. Wizards of the Coast pointed to the interaction with Hawkeye’s Bow, a combination that can end games on turn three and, with some fast mana, turn two.

That makes Pauper the most obvious format for action in this update. Players built around that pairing lose the card at once, and any deck depending on the combo has to be rebuilt around a different line.

The Fantasticar in Vintage

Wizards of the Coast did not act on The Fantasticar in Vintage, even though it has been putting up incredibly strong results. The card has a trivial Crew cost and a surprisingly low mana cost, and it can be powered out and swing for 16 damage in the air on turn one.

That leaves Vintage players with a warning instead of a ban. The announcement shows Wizards of the Coast is still watching the card’s output, while the immediate deck-building changes land in Legacy and Pauper.

The update also banned seven other cards across Legacy and Brawl, but the full list was not included in the verified facts here. For players affected by the named bans, the practical step is immediate: remove Candelabra of Tawnos from Legacy decks and Seeker of Skybreak from Pauper lists before the next match.
