Cameron Cauley set for debut as Rangers clear roster space

Cameron Cauley is headed to the Rangers for his major league debut on June 29, 2026. Texas still has to clear the roster path, because he is not on the 40-man yet and Chris Paddack is also being added.

That puts the Rangers in position to make at least one move, and possibly more, before Cauley is active. The opening already exists on the 40-man roster, but the club may need another spot to finish both transactions.

Cauley’s Triple-A jump

Cauley reaches Texas after a 74-game Triple-A stretch in which he went 29-for-29 in stolen base attempts. He also hit.262/.363/.407 in 343 plate appearances, with eight home runs, 12 doubles and three triples.

His year has been more than speed. Cauley drew walks at a 13.1% clip and struck out at a 21.3% rate, a better balance than the earlier swing-and-miss numbers that followed him through the system.

Texas roster pressure

The Rangers drafted Cauley in the third round in 2021, and his path has included a notable shift in contact quality. His contact rate has reached 75.7% in 2026, after he fanned in 24.7% of his plate appearances in Double-A last year, 29.2% in High-A a year earlier, and nearly 32% in 2023.

He has also shown enough versatility to move around the field. In 2026, he logged 227 innings at shortstop, 187 in center field, 109 at second base and 87 at third base, which gives Texas another option while Corey Seager and Josh Jung are set in the infield and Nicky Lopez has been getting run at second base.

Jack Leiter and the 40-man

One way Texas could create space is by shifting Jack Leiter from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL after his ankle surgery last week. That would help the Rangers handle Cauley’s promotion while also working through the Paddack addition without crowding the roster.

Cauley’s debut arrives after he went unselected in December’s Rule 5 Draft despite being eligible, and after a season that included 15 home runs in both 2024 and 2025 plus more than 25 steals in each of those years. The next move from Texas will tell the rest of the roster story, but the first one is already clear: Cauley is getting his shot.
