The Social Security Administration will issue Social Security 250th anniversary cards to babies born in the United States between July 2 and Dec. 31, 2026. The Freedom 250 cards are tied to America’s 250th birthday and will be sent automatically through Enumeration at Birth.
Frank J. Bisignano said the program honors America’s history and the creation of Social Security, calling Freedom 250 “a celebration of America's storied history and the monumental moments that have shaped our nation, including the creation of Social Security over 90 years ago.” The agency said the cards are limited to original cards issued during that six-month window.
Freedom 250 and Enumeration at Birth
The commemorative design will appear only on original cards issued through Enumeration at Birth. Babies born before July 2 or after Dec. 31, 2026, will receive the standard version, and replacement cards will also carry the standard design.
Parents will not need to submit extra paperwork, pay additional fees or sign up for the commemorative version. The agency said the cards will be produced at no additional cost to families or taxpayers.
Frank J. Bisignano statement
Bisignano said, “The next generation of Americans born during this historic year will receive limited-edition Social Security cards bearing the Freedom 250 logo. Under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump, we are strengthening Social Security, improving service, and building an SSA to serve Americans today and in the future.”
The cards will function exactly like a standard Social Security card and will not change a child’s Social Security number or legal status. That leaves the commemorative version as a design change, not a change in eligibility or benefits, and it makes the automatic issue the only step families need to know about.
President Donald Trump and Trump Accounts
President Donald Trump announced Trump Accounts on Wednesday for children born in the United States between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028. The new Social Security cards arrive during that same broad window of federal attention to newborns, but the card program itself stays narrower, limited to births from July 2 to Dec. 31, 2026.
For families, the practical point is simple: babies born in the qualifying period should receive the Freedom 250 version without doing anything extra, while later requests for replacements will not preserve the commemorative design.
Replacement and standard cards
The agency’s rule for replacements sets the boundary of the program. If a family requests a new card after the initial enrollment period, the replacement will be the standard version, not the Freedom 250 design.
That means the commemorative card is tied to the first issuance, not to the child for life. The design marks a specific birth window during America’s 250th anniversary celebration, and the opportunity ends with the qualifying dates in 2026.
