Shemar Moore Brings S.w.a.t. Exiles to Starz on Sept. 25

S.W.A.T. Exiles has a U.S. home. Starz will premiere the 10-episode spinoff on Sept. 25, putting Shemar Moore back in the franchise as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson.

The move gives the series a fixed launch date and a weekly Friday rollout, with new episodes streaming on the Starz app and across Starz streaming and on-demand platforms. For a franchise offshoot, that is the business side that matters most: a network slot, a release cadence and a path to viewers.

Moore Returns as Hondo

“’S.W.A.T. Exiles’ is coming in hot! I couldn’t be more excited that Starz is bringing this next chapter to audiences in the U.S,” Moore said. “A huge thank you to Sony Pictures Television for believing in this franchise and continuing to invest in what we’ve built together.” He added, “What makes this moment even more special is that we’re reaching audiences in all major territories worldwide.”

Moore returns as Hondo after the logline says he is pulled out of forced retirement when a high-profile mission goes sideways. He is then pushed into a last-chance experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits, with the story built around whether he can turn outsiders into a team before the program slips away for good.

Starz and Sony Split the Work

“’S.W.A.T. Exiles’ engages a deeply passionate fanbase that aligns strongly with our audience,” Alison Hoffman said. “We’re thrilled to join forces with Sony to be the first place U.S. fans can experience this thrilling new chapter in the franchise.”

The structure behind the series is wider than the U.S. premiere. Sony Pictures Television has already secured distribution deals across every major region, including Europe, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. That means the spinoff is not being treated as a one-territory test run; it is being sold as a global franchise title from the start.

Global Sales, Weekly Fridays

Sky GSA will carry the series in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Other deals include Sky New Zealand, Stan in Australia, Rai and Sky Italia in Italy, DPG in Flemish Belgium, Tet in the Baltics, Bell Media in English Canada and Quebecor Content in French Canada.

Disney+ will air the series across Latin America, WOWOW in Japan, LG Uplus in South Korea, AXN in Spain, Portugal, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asia, and beIN across the Middle East, North Africa and Türkiye. Canal+ also picked up the Netherlands, Central and Eastern Europe, Poland, Sub-Saharan Africa via Canal+ MNET and French-speaking African territories.

Jason Ning Builds the Run

Jason Ning serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, Moore, James Scura and Jon Cowan also executive producing. The cast listed for the spinoff includes Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares and Ronen Rubinstein, while Jay Harrington returns as Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay and Patrick St. Esprit returns as Commander Robert Hicks.

David Lim is set to return as Victor Tan in the penultimate episode, which leaves one practical question hanging over the rollout: how much of the original S.W.A.T. cast will appear beyond the returning names already listed. For now, the franchise has done what studios want first — it secured a U.S. home, locked a date and sold the show abroad before the premiere even hits Starz on Sept. 25.
