Georgia Stanway has joined Arsenal on a permanent deal after her Bayern Munich contract expired. The 27-year-old returns to the English top flight with a move that gives Arsenal an established midfield option before pre-season.
Stanway said: "It's an unbelievable feeling and I'm so proud to be joining Arsenal," and added: "I want to win trophies and grow as a player, and this is the right place to do that with the backing of an incredible fanbase." She will wear the No 4 shirt at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal add Stanway
The transfer brings back a player who spent four years in Munich after seven years at Manchester City in the Women's Super League. Across those spells, Stanway built a record that fits the move: 186 appearances and 67 goals for Manchester City, then 128 appearances and 32 goals for Bayern Munich.
She also arrives with silverware from both clubs. At Manchester City, she helped win one WSL title, three FA Cups and three League Cups. In Germany, she won the Bundesliga title in each of her four seasons and lifted two German Cups and two German Super Cups.
Renee Slegers on the move
Renee Slegers said: "Georgia is a brilliant midfielder and we're thrilled that she is an Arsenal player," before adding: "She will add a new dimension to our midfield, bringing experience and adding to our winning mentality. We look forward to getting down to work in pre-season ahead of a big campaign ahead." Arsenal now has the midfielder in place before that work begins.
Stanway's return also narrows the gap between her club career and her international record. She has scored 33 goals in 93 appearances for England and helped the Lionesses win the Women's Euros in 2022 and 2025. The open question is how quickly Arsenal turns that experience into minutes and how the No 4 shirt fits into the midfield shape when pre-season starts.
