Lewis Hamilton Tops FP1 as Sprint Qualifying Looms at Silverstone

Lewis Hamilton went fastest in the only British Grand Prix practice session on Friday, setting a 1m 29.260s lap before sprint qualifying later in the day at Silverstone. Kimi Antonelli had briefly led the session, but Hamilton reclaimed P1 and ended FP1 on top.

Silverstone FP1 order

Hamilton finished 0.192s clear of Antonelli, with Charles Leclerc, George Russell and Oscar Piastri next in the order behind the Ferrari driver. Max Verstappen headed the following group, with Lando Norris and Isack Hadjar behind him, while Nico Hulkenberg and Liam Lawson took P9 and P10.

Oscar Piastri at Becketts

Piastri’s run was not clean. He spun at Becketts and only just avoided the barriers, then said his "tyres are dead". That left him chasing a lap time in a session where the field had only one hour of practice before sprint qualifying.

Lando Norris track limits

Norris also lost time after one lap was deleted for exceeding track limits, and he later returned to the garage. Fernando Alonso improved to P18 on soft tyres, while Franco Colapinto finished marginally faster than Gabriel Bortoleto, Arvid Lindblad, Ollie Bearman and Carlos Sainz. Esteban Ocon ended FP1 in P16.
