Nikola Tsolov won the Formula 2 Sprint at Silverstone after passing Gabriele Mini on the final lap. The result cut the gap between them to a single point and gave Tsolov his fifth win of the season.
Silverstone Sprint battle
Mini started from pole and led from the opening lap until the final lap, but a lock-up at the start of that last lap opened the door. Tsolov had started from fifth place and used Mini’s slipstream to get ahead in the closing kilometers.
That move decided a race that had looked controlled for most of the distance. Mini held the lead for almost the entire Sprint, then lost it just when the pressure at the front left no margin for error.
Race order behind Tsolov
Rafael Villagomez finished third after Tsolov’s winning pass. Kush Maini and Tasanapol Inthrapuvasak followed in fourth and fifth, while Dino Beganovic and Roman Bilinski took sixth and seventh.
Rafael Câmara lost positions at the start before working back to his initial 10th place. He has won once this year, in Barcelona, while Tsolov became the only driver on the grid with five wins this season.
Sunday main race
The main race was scheduled for 12:10 French time on Sunday, July 5. For Tsolov, the Sprint left him one point behind Mini and gave him a cleaner path into the next Formula 2 race at Silverstone.
