Freedom 250 moved the Washington Monument Grounds opening for DC fireworks to 5:00 PM on July 4, 2026 because of heat conditions. The change applies to Salute to America and comes as the event is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors.
Complimentary water will be available on site, and free hydration stations will be placed throughout the Washington Monument grounds. Freedom 250 said it coordinated closely with United States Park Police, National Park Service, the United States Secret Service, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to expand cooling resources, water stations, and medical support across the grounds.
Washington Monument Grounds at 5:00 PM
The schedule now gives visitors a later entry point for the main Washington Monument Grounds portion of Salute to America. The Great American State Fair and the FIFA Fan Zone on the National Mall will open at 12:00 PM and remain open until the end of the Salute to America programming, while aircraft flyovers and demonstrations begin over the National Mall at 1:15 PM and continue every hour.
Freedom 250 described the celebration as the capstone of America’s 250th anniversary. The event also includes flyovers and demonstrations along the National Mall and Washington Monument grounds, with NASA, USCG, Golden Knights, Leap Frogs, USAF, USMC, USN, USN Blue Angels, USMC MV-22 Osprey, USAF Thunderbirds, and Air Force One listed in the program.

The Salute to America Live Program is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM, followed by remarks from Donald J. Trump at 9:45 PM. The World’s Largest Fireworks Display is scheduled for 10:30 PM, putting the late-night finale after a day that now starts with a heat-driven adjustment.
The event is promoted as a major celebratory day, but the opening moved later because of current heat conditions. For anyone headed to Washington Monument grounds, the practical change is simple: arrive for the 5:00 PM opening if you want access to the grounds, use the hydration stations, and plan around the 7:00 PM live program, the 9:45 PM remarks, and the 10:30 PM fireworks.
