The trial is scheduled to begin in September 2027. Cosgrove, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene in Wemyss Bay last year after what prosecutors say was a knife attack in a caravan at the Parkdean resort.

Police were called just after midnight on 14 September, and prosecutors claim Ward, 22, repeatedly struck and stabbed Cosgrove on the body with a blade or similar weapon. That leaves the case centered on how the alleged attack unfolded inside a caravan in Rothesay Gardens, rather than on any dispute over where it happened.

Ward's separate allegations

Ward also faces a separate charge of assaulting a woman at the holiday park. He is further accused of attacking a man with an axe in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire in May 2025, which means the indictment reaches beyond the Wemyss Bay death and gives the court more than one allegation to test.

A spokesperson for Wemyss Holiday Park said they could not comment on the investigation and extended their deepest condolences to the family of the victim. The unanswered issue now is the evidence prosecutors will rely on to prove the alleged knife attack and the separate accusations when the trial opens in September 2027.
