Projected Bears starters by Week 1 who may not still start by Thanksgiving — Chicago Bears

For the Chicago Bears, Week 1 may not be the point where the lineup settles. It may be the point where the real competition begins. That is the implication behind a roster that already looks vulnerable in a few spots, with projected starters who could be looking over their shoulders long before Thanksgiving arrives.

Earlier this week, ranked the Bears 17th among 32 teams, a reminder that this is not being viewed as a finished product. That fits the broader picture. The Bears changed lineups during the 2025-26 season because of injuries and inadequate play, and some of those issues are still hanging over the same positions entering training camp.

Left tackle is still the clearest question

Braxton Jones is expected to enter camp leading the left tackle competition, and he is trying to hold the job. That is not a trivial battle, because the Bears previously cycled through four different options at left tackle last season. If a team is still searching for stability after that kind of turnover, it is hard to treat the position as secure in late November, let alone in Week 1.

Ozzy Trapilo adds another layer to that uncertainty. His earliest projected return to practice is Weeks 7-9, which means the Bears may spend the first half of the season trying to survive without knowing exactly what the long-term answer looks like. If Jones struggles, the door is open for change. If he holds up, the Bears still have to figure out whether Trapilo becomes the next option or merely another layer of depth.

That is why left tackle feels like the spot most likely to change by Thanksgiving. It is not just about one player. It is about a position group that has already shown how quickly the Bears can move on when the performance is not good enough.

The interior line and the secondary are not exactly stable, either

The center battle is another place where the Bears could look different by Week 13. Garrett Bradbury gives them a veteran option, while Logan Jones is pushing for the starting center job. That is a real competition, not a symbolic one, and the presence of a rookie challenger means the Bears may be evaluating both short-term reliability and longer-term upside at the same time.

The same logic applies in the secondary. Tyrique Stevenson was among the Week 1 starters in the 2025-26 season, but the Bears have already shown a willingness to adjust when the play or availability is not right. The cornerback picture is also affected by the departure of Nahshon Wright in free agency, which narrows the margin for error and makes every early-season struggle more meaningful.

None of this means the Bears are doomed to churn the lineup. It does mean the jobs that look temporary now may stay temporary. If the left tackle play is uneven, if the center battle tilts toward the rookie, or if the cornerback group needs another shake-up, Thanksgiving could arrive with a very different starting group than the one that opened the season.

That is the real takeaway from the current Bears picture. This is a team with enough uncertainty that the most important depth chart battles may not be decided in August at all. They may be decided by who can still be standing when the season reaches November.
