Boston weather is set for a sharp warmup, with temperatures in northern Illinois likely to climb into the low to mid 90s beginning as early as Monday. The heat is expected to last through the middle of the week after a brief break from heat and humidity last week.
Temperatures could get close to 90 on Sunday before the stronger warmup begins. The next few days will stay seasonable, with highs in the low to mid 80s, so the jump into the 90s will arrive after a short stretch of milder weather.
Monday and the middle of the week
A strong ridge of high pressure will develop across the central and northern Plains and Upper Midwest early next week, and that pattern is what supports the warmer air moving in. Temperatures are expected to warm into the 90s as early as next Monday, with the hottest stretch lasting through the middle of the week.
Lower dew points may keep the air from feeling as heavy as last week. They could also help afternoon temperatures warm a little further, which means the warmest readings may come during the later part of the day.
Will the ridge break down
The first half of the week may stay mostly dry because the outer edges of the ridge could remain far enough east to keep thunderstorms away. By the middle to end of the week, the ridge may start to break down, and that could bring back the chance for a few thunderstorms.
A few thunderstorms are likely Thursday morning, then again during the afternoon and evening on Thursday. People in northern Illinois who are planning around the warmth should expect the hotter stretch to build quickly after Sunday, with the best chance for changing conditions arriving later in the week.
The ridge looks to build back in after that possible midweek breakdown, which could keep the area hot and dry through the middle of the month.
