Jackson Ragen did not force his way into the 2026 MLS All-Star Team with noise and headlines. He did it the proper way: by becoming one of the top centerbacks in MLS and making Seattle Sounders FC too difficult to ignore at the back. That is the sort of selection that actually makes sense.
Ragen was named to the 2026 MLS All-Star Team as a coach’s selection, earning his first All-Star nod. It is a deserved reward for a defender whose value this season has come mostly in possession, while also helping lead the Sounders to one of the top defensive records in MLS. In a league that often rewards the loudest attacking names, that matters.
The full All-Star group now includes 16 players, made up of 11 fan-voted All-Stars and two commissioner’s picks alongside the additional selections. Ragen’s inclusion gives Seattle Sounders FC another reason to feel justified in trusting the structure of this side rather than chasing flash for its own sake.
What the selection says about Ragen
This is not a token defensive pick. It is recognition that a modern centerback can shape a team without living on last-ditch clearances and highlight reels. Ragen’s contribution this year has been rooted in composure, clean possession and the kind of reliability that gives a team a platform.
That is especially important for Seattle Sounders FC, because the Sounders have leaned on him in a campaign that has produced one of the top defensive records in MLS. The numbers around the team’s defense underline the point: 11 goals allowed, a 78.8 save percentage, five shutouts,.5 goals prevented per 90 and a 1.6 goals-prevented rate. Those are the figures of a group doing serious work, not just surviving on reputation.
The next stage comes on July 29, when the MLS All-Stars face a team of All-Stars from Liga MX at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. For Ragen, the selection is both recognition and responsibility. He has gone from being one of the league’s better defensive pieces to a player the All-Star stage now has to make room for.
