Mbappe's penalty miss did not slow France

The World Cup runner-up was dominant for most of the match and had an early chance to take control in the 25th minute. Facundo Tello awarded France a penalty after Noussair Mazraoui fouled Kylian Mbappe, but Yassine Bounou saved the spot kick.

France kept pressing and finally broke through in the second half. Mbappe scored France's first goal in the 60th minute, then Ousmane Dembele added the second in the 66th minute to put the match out of reach.

Late injury concern for France's top scorer

The one worry for France came in the 77th minute, when Mbappe left the match injured and Jean-Philippe Mateta replaced him. Morocco, meanwhile, struggled to generate danger and did not register its first shot on target until the 83rd minute, when Mike Maignan made the save.

The result sent France into the semifinal and eliminated Morocco from the tournament, while also leaving Mbappe's status something to monitor heading into the next round.
