USPS Reopens Lockhill Post Office After Damage to Lobby

The Lockhill Postal Office resumed normal operations on Thursday after a woman allegedly crashed her car into the building Wednesday morning, causing Lockhill Post Office lobby damage. The North Side location had been disrupted long enough to send retail customers to another USPS site while repairs were addressed.

Becky Hernandez, a USPS spokesperson, said the post office's "front door, retail lobby and P.O. box lobby were damaged" after the crash. She also said "no injuries were reported," giving a clearer picture of the building damage than the personal injuries tied to the wreck.

Huebner Road and Lockhill Postal Office

Officers were dispatched just before 11 a.m. for a reported collision at the post office in the 12900 block of Huebner Road. SAPD said its officers found an older woman who had inadvertently driven into the post office, and the woman was treated for her injuries before being taken to a hospital in an unknown condition.

Police said the woman may have suffered a "health episode" during the crash. That detail leaves the cause of the collision unresolved, even as the postal location itself has already gone back to normal service.

Cedar Elm Post Office service

For customers who need in-person retail service, USPS directed them to the Cedar Elm Post Office at 5837 De Zavala Road. Its retail window is open between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, which gives affected customers a specific alternate counter while the Lockhill Postal Office is back in operation.

The practical takeaway is straightforward: customers can again use the Lockhill Postal Office on the North Side, while the Cedar Elm Post Office remains the fallback for retail service if they need it. The only major question left by the crash is what caused the woman's vehicle to strike the building in the first place.
