Xero Launches Ultra for Australian Businesses at $72.61

Xero launched Ultra in Australia for businesses that have outgrown basic accounting tools but are not ready for ERP. The plan extends Xero beyond accounting, payroll, and bank reconciliation into a higher-complexity tier. For Australian customers, that means the software stack can stay inside one provider longer before a move to Oracle or SAP.

Angad Soin on Xero Ultra

Angad Soin said some businesses reach a point where their tools “hit a point where their tools stop growing with them”. He is Xero’s managing director for Australia and New Zealand and global chief strategy officer. Ultra is aimed at that gap: companies that need more entities, more complexity, and more transactions than Xero plans already in the market.

Ultra adds consolidated reporting for multiple entities, extra scenario-modelling tools, cash flow forecasting tools, heightened customer support, migration services, and upgraded data restoration services. Xero said those restoration tools can help businesses fix errors without root-and-branch resets. For finance teams, the practical shift is less about a new label and more about handling group reporting and planning in one place.

Xero vs Oracle and SAP

Xero said businesses that need bespoke solutions often turn to Oracle or SAP. Ultra is built to sit between small-business software and full ERP, which is a sharper move into larger-company workflows than Xero’s core plan set. The company also said MYOB offers ERP solutions in Australia through a partnership with Acumatica.

$72.61 was where Xero shares traded on Wednesday, down from $178.40 at the close of trade exactly one year earlier. That makes the Ultra launch a growth push into a tougher SaaS market, where Xero is also banking on AI tools to keep enterprises inside its system. If Ultra works, the payoff is not only a new tier; it is a longer customer relationship.

JAX, Syft and Claude

Xero said its AI strategy includes Just Ask Xero and Syft, and that it has partnered with Anthropic to embed Claude within the JAX function. Those tools sit alongside Ultra as the company tries to make its platform harder to leave as customers add entities, forecasts, and reporting requirements. For Australian businesses moving up in size, the decision now is whether Xero Ultra covers enough ground before a jump to ERP becomes unavoidable.
