Manchester City have completed the signing of Jeremy Monga from Leicester City in a £10m deal that runs until the summer of 2031.
The 17-year-old winger has joined City after a transfer battle that also involved Arsenal, with the move giving the Premier League club another highly rated young talent for the long term.
Why Manchester City moved quickly
Monga only turned 17 on Friday, but he has already built a senior record that has made him one of the more notable young players in English football. He made his top-flight debut against Newcastle United in April 2025 at the age of 15 years and 271 days, becoming Leicester's second-youngest appearance maker and the third-youngest player to ever feature in the Premier League.
In the 2025/26 season, Monga played 30 times in all competitions for Leicester, scoring one goal and adding two assists. Across his senior career, he has made 37 appearances, including seven in the Premier League.
That background helps explain why Manchester City were willing to move decisively. The club have also shown in recent years that academy talent can rise through the pathway, with Phil Foden and Nico O'Reilly both cited as examples of opportunities being available for young players.
What Monga said about the move
Monga said that once he became aware of Manchester City's interest, he knew instantly it was the right choice for him. He described joining the club as a dream come true and said it was a privilege to be there. He also pointed to the pathway for academy players, saying that the chances given to Phil Foden and Nico O'Reilly showed the route is there for young players who earn it.
That is an important part of the appeal for City as well. A five-year deal gives the club time to develop Monga carefully, while the player gets a long runway at a team that has handed meaningful opportunities to young talent when the timing has been right.
What Hugo Viana said
Manchester City's director of football, Hugo Viana, said Monga is an exciting player who has already made huge strides in his young career. Viana added that the club were already very aware of him and had seen his ability first-hand during his time at Leicester.
He also said that, at 17 years old, Monga is expected to keep improving and that this is the correct next step in his career. City, he said, look forward to supporting him at every step in his journey.
For Leicester, the deal ends a spell in which Monga had emerged as one of their most talked-about young players. For City, it is another long-term investment in a player whose age, profile and early senior experience make him an intriguing addition.
