Police Service Of Northern Ireland is investigating two separate overnight arson attacks in Limavady and Coalisland. One person was taken to hospital after a deliberate fire in Glenview Drive, while a house in Pinebank Gardens was targeted shortly after 03:30 BST.
In Limavady, police said the blaze was reported at about 01:30 BST on Saturday after an object was thrown through the window of an unoccupied flat at a block of flats in Glenview Drive. One person was later treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.
Glenview Drive in Limavady
Det Insp Ballentine said: “Enquiries are ongoing to determine a motive, who was involved, and the circumstances of what happened.” Firefighters, police and ambulance staff attended the scene on Saturday morning.
The Limavady flat was unoccupied when the object was thrown through the window, yet one person still had to go to hospital for smoke inhalation. That sequence leaves a narrow but important detail for anyone living in the block: the fire spread beyond the empty flat itself.
Pinebank Gardens in Coalisland
In Coalisland, police said two petrol bombs were thrown at a house in Pinebank Gardens shortly after 03:30 BST. Det Insp Winters said: “The occupant of the property managed to extinguish the fire, and thankfully, there were no reports of any injuries” and that it “was a reckless attack, and our enquiries are ongoing this morning to establish the circumstances”.
The occupant of the property dealt with the fire before it spread further, and police said there were no reports of injuries in that incident. Police have appealed to anyone with information about either attack to contact them, while enquiries continue to establish the motive and whether the two incidents are connected.
