Jordan Lee kept making history at Wimbledon on Saturday, advancing to the boys final with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Vincent Reisach on show court 12. The qualifier will face Cruz Hewitt on Sunday in a matchup between two Wimbledon debutants.
The result added another notable step to Lee's first junior Grand Slam appearance. The 16-year-old entered this week as the youngest player in the boys draw and has now moved through the event with a clean, efficient run. He opened with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Yannick Alexandrescou, then followed it by handling Reisach in straight sets.
A first junior Slam ends in a final
For Lee, the biggest takeaway is simple: he has handled every new stage so far. This was his first Wimbledon and his first junior Slam, but he has already shown that the occasion has not been too big for him. That matters at this level, where experience often helps separate the contenders from the rest of the field.
Lee acknowledged the challenge ahead, noting that he had played Hewitt in doubles last week and “got destroyed,” while also adding that every day is different. He said Hewitt is a good player and pointed out that he had seen a few points from Hewitt's win over Thijs Boogaard earlier in the day.
Sunday brings a new test
Hewitt also arrives with momentum, beating Boogaard 6-4, 6-4 to reach the final. The son of Lleyton Hewitt has grass-court experience, including a semifinal and a final on grass in M15s in Australia this spring. He also has support from Wayne Arthurs and his father, which has been part of his Wimbledon run.
The final now gives Lee a chance to cap his debut week with a title. It also sets up an interesting contrast: a qualifier who has exceeded expectations against another debutant who has already spent more time around high-level grass-court tennis. Either way, Sunday's boys final should close a memorable first junior Slam for both players.
