Firefighters used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. They also used a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots before leaving the scene closed.
The incident is understood to have involved a combine harvester, a detail that helps explain why crews stayed on site long enough to make sure nothing remained hot beneath the surface. That check came after the main flames were out, when hidden heat can still restart a fire in dry ground or debris.
Cheshire Police traffic management
Officers from Cheshire Police were called to assist with traffic management while the incident was ongoing. Drivers in the area were affected while the field fire was dealt with, but the road response was limited to keeping traffic moving safely around the working crews.
The fire was ongoing when firefighters arrived, yet the incident is now closed. For anyone passing through Alder Root Lane near Burtonwood, that means the active emergency response has ended and the roadside activity linked to the blaze has cleared.
