Kenneth Andreu, 74, died in a plane crash after the single-engine Cessna 182J Skyline he was flying went down 150 yards from Piseco Airport’s runway on July 12. The crash destroyed the aircraft in a wooded area and left Andreu as the sole occupant.
Piseco Airport crash site
Andreu was flying from Hudson Valley Regional Airport to Piseco Airport when the plane crashed in Hamilton County. The aircraft had been manufactured in 1966, and no other injuries were reported.
The plane’s close proximity to the runway gives the crash a narrow geographic focus: it happened after the flight was already near its destination, not far from where it began its final approach. That leaves the location clear, but not the reason the plane came down where it did.
Federal investigators at site
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are at the crash site. Their presence means the accident will be reviewed through the federal investigative process that follows a fatal aircraft crash.
Andreu lived at 3 Beech St. in Valhalla. His death is the only fatality reported from the crash, and the cause has not been determined.
The remaining question is straightforward: what caused the plane to crash 150 yards from the runway at Piseco Airport? Until investigators finish their work, the known facts stop at the wreckage, the location, and the death of the 74-year-old pilot.
