John Cena Opened Big Cass Break For Enzo Amore

Big CASS got its first real WWE lift when John Cena pulled Enzo Amore into a dark segment after three hours in the arena. Amore says that one invitation, plus the crowd response, turned a buried developmental appearance into a televised NXT opening.

“I get to the ring. I do the job,” Amore said, recalling the earlier ring work that led Bill DeMott to bury him. Minutes later, Rob Naylor told him, “Enzo, John Cena wants to see you.”

John Cena then told Amore, “I've been here for three hours and I want you to know you're the only thing that's caught my attention all day. So would you like to come to the ring with me in the dark segment?” Paul Levesque approved Big Cass joining the segment, giving Amore a seven-foot-tall partner for the spot.

Enzo Amore and Big Cass had already become fast friends at the WWE Performance Center, and Cass had been teaching him in-ring skills and talking psychology. That gave the segment a built-in pair rather than a one-off cameo, and it set up a cleaner path to the next opportunity on NXT.

Bill DeMott’s reaction and Cena’s response could not have been more different. Amore said DeMott buried him after the job, then Cena singled him out as the only thing that had caught his attention all day. He later repeated, “What the f*** is happening right now?” as the boys clapped for him.

The promo itself did the work. Amore set up SAWFT by asking Cena about the number of dimples on a golf ball, then said that unlike a golf ball he was hard-bodied and Cena was soft. The crowd echoed the catchphrase, and Triple H gave him a squash match shortly after.

NXT and WWE Battleground in July

Amore said, “Then John Cena got me and Cass over, gave us the rub.” That is the practical takeaway for anyone tracking how WWE exposure works: one strong segment can move a developmental act from a local proving ground to televised follow-up fast enough to change the rest of the run.

Enzo Amore and Big Cass moved up to WWE's main roster in the summer of 2016, then teamed with John Cena in a six-man tag bout at WWE Battleground in July 2016. The unresolved piece is still the same one Amore left hanging: what specific performance or quality made Cena notice him in the first place.
