Tom Martin and Georgie Lavery’s engagement rings story aired after a proposal at Avalon Falls, where the couple had their first date. They had kept the engagement secret since January, and Tom planned the ring for about five months before he asked.
Avalon Falls and the ring
Tom said the proposal was set for 3pm so the light would be right, even though he described it as “the hottest day of summer and the hottest part of the day… It was probably 44 degrees.” He proposed back in January, and the custom ring was built around a bit of gold he had to find first.
He said, “I’d been planning it for about five months because I had to find some gold first [for the ring] – and Georgie was giving me a hard time, saying, ‘Hurry up and propose! So I took her gold panning with a local bloke and we found a bit.’” Doug from York Jewellers then melted that gold down and put it in the ring, along with Tom’s birthstone.
Georgie Lavery and the secret
Georgie said the proposal caught her off guard, even if she had a suspicion Tom might ask. “I almost fainted – it was the shock, the elements, all the things!” she said. She also said, “I did have a bit of an inkling [that he might propose] because he asked me what I was doing on that day like three times and I kept saying ‘I’m free.’”
She got “just press-on nails in case it wasn’t true,” and later said, “I love the ring, it’s so pretty, it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.” The secrecy lasted seven months, and Tom joked, “You can’t trust Georgie, she’s got a big mouth!”
Farmer Wants A Wife 2025
The engagement is now set to be shown on Farmer Wants A Wife this week, giving viewers the behind-the-scenes detail that the public did not see at the time. Georgie said, “I can’t wait to be able to wear it when it’s not a secret any more!”
