Norah O'Donnell says her women’s health podcast Healthful will debut on July 22. The series is built around expert conversations on health topics and will let listeners submit questions.
O'Donnell said the podcast will include a segment called Turning the Tables. She described the format as a way to bring women “the world's leading experts on all these things that we want to know more about.”
Norah O'Donnell on health
O'Donnell said, “As a journalist I always say, ‘Tell me something I don't know,’ and we're really doing that with this podcast.” She also said, “I think I'm pretty well-read in the topic of health. Everybody in my family is a scientist.”
The first topics listed for Healthful include the rise of lung cancer in never-smokers and its prevalence in women. O'Donnell said, “This was not on my radar.” Additional episodes will cover hormone therapy, movement as medicine, and the diet-Alzheimer’s connection.
Kira Stokes training routine
O'Donnell works with personal trainer Kira Stokes two to three times a week on functional strength training and mobility. She called bicep curls her favorite exercise and burpees her least favorite.
She said, “It’s so much band work,” and added, “I also describe it as preventative training—so much of that work is so that I don't injure myself when I'm playing tennis.” O'Donnell said she does near-daily walks and plays tennis on Saturdays and Sundays.
July 22 and the schedule
O'Donnell said she takes a 10-20 minute walk right after dinner to help manage insulin levels. She usually has lunch as a salad and dinner as a protein and vegetables, then eats her final meal early because bedtime is at 8:30 or 9 p.m.
She wakes around 4:30 a.m. and said, “I actually like the mornings because it's kind of my quiet time, and I can read and get a lot done,” The launch gives listeners a date, a format, and a way to take part once Healthful goes live on July 22.
