Tochi Chukwuani double in 2-2 draw with Johor Darul Ta'zim as Rangers finish Spain camp on a useful note

Rangers ended their pre-season camp in Spain with a 2-2 draw against Johor Darul Ta'zim, recovering from 2-0 down thanks to a Tochi Chukwuani double in a behind closed doors game.

It was the latest step in a busy summer schedule for Derek McInnes’ side, who have used three friendly games to build rhythm before heading back to the UK for more tests next week.

Chukwuani leads the comeback

Rangers had already built up some momentum before travelling to Spain last Friday, beating Raith Rovers 5-1 and Dunfermline 3-1 in friendly games. They followed that with a 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday, before the meeting with Johor Darul Ta'zim provided another useful workout.

Trailing 2-0, Rangers needed a response and Chukwuani provided it with two goals to bring the game level. In pre-season, that kind of fightback matters almost as much as the result itself.

What comes next for Rangers?

After a week in south Spain, Rangers will return to the UK and prepare for friendlies with St Etienne and West Ham at Ibrox next week. That will give McInnes another chance to assess where his side are physically and tactically before the schedule tightens again.

The draw with Johor Darul Ta'zim will not change the bigger picture, but it did show Rangers can recover when a game turns against them. For a side rounding off a camp in Spain, that is a decent sign to take home.
