The Jaecoo 7 became the top-selling car in the United Kingdom in March, giving Chery a rare headline breakthrough in a market long dominated by familiar names. The Chinese SUV’s lower price, standard equipment and long warranty helped drive the Temu Range Rover comparison.
Jaecoo 7 and Range Rover Evoque
British motorists and social media commentators gave the model its nickname because it resembles premium British SUVs at a lower price. The entry-level petrol version costs about 30,000 pounds, while a Range Rover Evoque starts at around 45,000 pounds. The Jaecoo 7 also includes a sunroof and heated front seats as standard, and it carries a seven-year warranty, compared with a three-year warranty from Land Rover.
Chery brands in April
Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders data showed Chery brands reached 6.7 percent market share in April, while Nissan fell to 2.7 percent. That puts the March sales result into a wider pattern: a Chinese SUV gaining share fast enough to move ahead of domestic luxury alternatives on the United Kingdom market in the space of one month.
Sunderland plant by 2027
Nissan Motor Co. and Chery signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding about sharing a factory in Sunderland, with assembly of Chery vehicles possible by 2027. Nissan will keep ownership of the Sunderland facility and remain the direct employer of the industrial workforce. For buyers, the practical effect is simple: the Jaecoo 7 is no longer just a lookalike talking point; it is competing on price, equipment and warranty against established British SUVs, and that pressure is now showing up in the sales data.
