Todd Fedoruk says rumors link Connor McDavid to Philadelphia — Connor Mcdavid

Connor McDavid’s new two-year contract has already become part of the NHL’s latest round of speculation, and Todd Fedoruk added fuel to that conversation on Thursday. Speaking on Fanatic 97.5, the former NHL enforcer and Philadelphia Flyers colour commentator said there are rumours McDavid could want out of Edmonton early this season, with the Flyers mentioned as a possible destination.

The comments arrived in the middle of what many around the league call the NHL’s “stupid season,” when trade chatter and destination guesses tend to grow louder. That is especially true when the player in question is McDavid, one of the league’s marquee names and a scorer who can still produce 100 points a season.

Why the rumor matters

Fedoruk framed the discussion around timing as much as talent. He suggested that if McDavid does not get off to a good start, his agent could begin looking for a new landing spot. He also pointed to the Edmonton Oilers’ success, or lack of it, as a major factor in whether any move gains traction.

“If he doesn’t have a good start to the season, he’s going to be a player that’s going to be calling teams,” Fedoruk said. “His agent is going to be looking for him to go places. There’s rumours that Philadelphia is a place that Conor McDavid wants to go now.”

Fedoruk also made the case that McDavid would fit the Flyers’ needs because he is “another 1C” and still wants to win. In his view, that kind of player would match what Danny Briere and the Flyers would want if they are ready to stay agile and respond if the situation changes.

What comes next

For now, the discussion remains speculation, not a reported move. But it is notable because it comes just after McDavid’s new contract began and because any sign of unrest around Edmonton quickly becomes leaguewide talk. As Fedoruk put it, the path forward may depend on how the Oilers perform early in the season and whether McDavid’s camp sees a reason to explore something different.
