Anna Melisano is set for her UFC debut on Saturday night, stepping into a women’s flyweight matchup against Dione Barbosa at UFC Fight Night: Du Plessis vs. Usman in Oklahoma City.
The matchup comes on short notice for Melisano, who will be making the move to 125 pounds after previously winning a strawweight title. She enters the bout with a 6-1 record and a six-fight winning streak, giving her some momentum even as she takes a big step up in competition.
What the records say
Barbosa brings the more established UFC résumé into the fight. She is 3-2 in the UFC and 9-4 overall, and she has alternated wins and losses since joining the promotion. In April, Barbosa defeated Melissa Gatto by majority decision, one of her last three bouts.
Melisano, meanwhile, has not yet fought in the UFC, so this debut is also a test of how her style translates to the Octagon. The setup points to a prospect-versus-veteran dynamic, with Barbosa offering a more proven UFC level opponent and Melisano arriving with fresh momentum from her run outside the promotion.
Why the matchup matters
The timing adds another layer. Melisano’s recent path has included a loss to Melissa Amaya on the season premiere of The Ultimate Fighter 34 in mid-June, but she also has the title-winning result from December, when she stopped Andrea Amaro via TKO due to doctor’s stoppage to capture the Fury FC strawweight title.
Now she gets her first UFC opportunity in a new division. That makes Saturday’s fight a useful first look at how her game holds up against a veteran flyweight who has already shown she can survive the UFC grind. For Melisano, the debut is about more than simply getting on the roster. It is also about proving she belongs at this level right away.
For Barbosa, the assignment is straightforward: handle the newcomer and continue building toward a more stable run in the division. For Melisano, it is the start of a new chapter, and the kind of debut that can quickly change how a fighter is viewed inside the UFC.
