Gillian Anderson backs LEGO Ideas The X-Files set with 1,478 pieces — X-files Lego Set

Gillian Anderson says the LEGO Ideas The X-Files set sits near the top of her career honors, and the X-Files LEGO set now exists as a 1,478-piece build with Fox Mulder and Dana Scully minifigures. She also said she thought the idea had gone away before LEGO turned it into a product.

The set, numbered 21369, arrives with eight minifigures and a $199.99 RRP, plus £179.99 and €199.99 pricing. LEGO Insiders Early Access begins on August 1, with general sale following on August 4.

Gillian Anderson and LEGO Ideas

Anderson compared the honor to earlier pop-culture milestones, saying: “It’s way at the top, I’d have to say. Definitely. It was pretty cool when we ended up on a Mad Magazine cover. It was pretty cool when we ended up in a Simpsons episode — one of my favorites of all time. But I have to say that this is right up there with The Simpsons.”

She also said, “It’s amazing that the LEGO brand allows fans to weigh in on what products they might create in the future.” That is the mechanism here: a fan idea moved through LEGO Ideas, then became a retail item instead of staying a concept.

Brent Waller’s decade-long pitch

Brent Waller first pitched the concept over ten years ago, which gives this release a development timeline unusual even by collector standards. After the LEGO Ideas ’90s Nostalgia Challenge, the set received overwhelmingly positive feedback and was greenlit, turning a long-requested idea into an official product line entry.

Anderson said, “I mean, I literally thought that the idea had gone away.” She added, “I mean, I understand, based on the detail of the set, why it has taken so long.”

Eight minifigures, one release window

The box includes Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, The Flukeman and a grey alien. That roster gives the set more scope than a simple two-character display piece, and it broadens the appeal beyond the leads to a deeper slice of the series.

LEGO Ideas The X-Files: Scully’s Lab is also available as a gift with purchase from August 1 to August 10. For buyers, the practical move is simple: early access starts first, then the wider release follows three days later.

Mulder and Scully at retail

Anderson said she plans to build the set with her family, which is the clearest sign this has moved from niche concept to household object. The release gives collectors, and anyone who waited out the ten-year stretch from pitch to product, a fixed window to buy before the general sale begins.
