Sony has dropped a new Resident Evil 2026 trailer ahead of Zach Cregger's Hall H appearance, keeping the film on course for a September 18 theatrical release. Austin Abrams leads the cast as Bryan, a medical courier headed for a drop-off at Raccoon City General hospital, with the story built around one long night of survival rather than a broad ensemble detour.

September 18 rollout

The release date gives Sony a fixed runway into Hall H, where the latest footage can do the work of selling the film to both franchise followers and casual moviegoers. Abrams' Bryan is written as the center of gravity: he unwittingly gets pulled into an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as the night collapses around him in chaos.

Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser also star, and the film comes from Columbia Pictures and Constantin Film in association with TriStar Pictures. Zach Cregger co-wrote the script with Shay Hatten, which keeps the project tied to the studio machinery that has kept Resident Evil moving back to theaters.

CinemaCon first look

The first teaser trailer was previewed in room only at CinemaCon earlier in April, then shown again when Sony released it on April 30. That earlier cut leaned on the visual grammar of the games: Abrams trudging through a snowy night, a dark and empty house, the sound of creatures screeching, bloodied zombies, an overturned vehicle and bodies falling and exploding in the street.

Cregger used CinemaCon in Las Vegas to set expectations with a blunt promise that the movie is "a big, scary ride". He said he hoped it would be "true to the spirit of the games" while offering "no narrative acrobatics, time jumps or disorienting chapter things," which is the cleanest signal yet that the film is aiming for a straight-through survival run instead of a puzzle-box structure.

Resident Evil's box-office pull

The franchise angle is not small. The Resident Evil video game franchise launched in 1996, the original six-film series launched in 2002 with Milla Jovovich leading it, and that run grossed more than $1.2 billion worldwide. Sony also returned to the world with Welcome to Raccoon City in 2021, so this new trailer is part of a long, commercially proven cycle rather than a one-off swing.

For now, the practical read is simple: the campaign has moved from teaser mode into full rollout, and Hall H should tell viewers whether the new footage adds story detail beyond Bryan's path to Raccoon City General hospital. If the trailer keeps the focus on that single-foot-journey structure, Sony is betting the film sells best as a pressure-cooker survival movie, not a sprawling lore exercise.
