Apple’s iPhone 20 is expected in the fall of 2027 with a glass-heavy redesign and a display with no cutouts. If that design lands, it would be the biggest shift since iPhone X and the first anniversary model to push so hard toward a cleaner front.
Mark Gurman and the glass body
Mark Gurman described a mostly glass, curved iPhone without any cutouts in the display, and that points to a device that is meant to look less segmented from the front. Apple is also expected to bring back a glass back and wrap curved glass around all four edges, which would make the anniversary model look closer to a single continuous surface than current iPhone designs.
The reported build quality is said to be comparable to the first-generation iPhone Air, which suggests Apple is chasing refinement rather than a dramatic shape change for its own sake. The larger practical shift is the screen treatment, because a no-cutout front changes how much of the panel is available for content and how the front of the device is laid out.
Face ID and no cutouts
Apple reportedly wants a front with no cutouts at all, and it is moving both Face ID and the selfie camera beneath the display. One report described a spliced micro-transparent glass window that would let Face ID’s infrared sensors pass through the panel, which is the kind of engineering trick that can hide hardware without making the front of the phone look empty by accident.
Ross Young said the under-display technology is unlikely to be fully ready for 2027, and that is the main complication in the story. Apple may want a seamless front, but the hardware path to get there still appears to be the part most likely to slip, which means the anniversary model could arrive with a reduced hole-punch or a smaller Dynamic Island instead.
iPhone 20 size and frame
Apple is reportedly planning two anniversary models at roughly 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches. The larger version could be sold as a 7-inch device because slimmer bezels would stretch the usable front without changing the basic footprint as much as the marketing number suggests.
The frame is expected to be a thin polished band, but the material is still unsettled. Fixed Focus Digital pushed back on claims that Apple is preparing a return to titanium or a switch to Liquid Metal, and said aluminum remains the likely material, so the real question is whether Apple reaches the cleaner front it wants before the fall of 2027.
