Anan Khalaili is now the name attached to Nottingham Forest’s push for Givairo Read. Nottingham Forest have stepped up efforts to sign the Feyenoord right-back, and Feyenoord are holding out for more than €30m.
The 20-year-old Amsterdam-born defender is under contract at De Kuip until 2029. He is understood to be open to joining Nottingham Forest, which gives the talks a clear path if the fee gap can be bridged.
Nottingham Forest have monitored Read since December and have now submitted improved proposals. Oliver Glasner wants to reinvest some of the money received from the sale of Elliot Anderson, and the club is trying to move before the Premier League season begins.
Feyenoord hold the line
Feyenoord are not moving quickly. The club wants a fee in excess of €30m, or more than £25.6m, and that price point is the main obstacle between the two clubs.
Read’s profile explains why Nottingham Forest are pressing hard. He can play as a traditional full-back or in a wing-back role, and he helped Feyenoord secure a Champions League place last season. Bayern Munich and Manchester City had previously shown interest, which fits the wider view of him as one of Feyenoord’s more valuable young players.
De Kuip and the valuation gap
Giovanni van Bronckhorst regards Read as an important figure for the coming campaign, so Feyenoord’s stance has a sporting logic as well as a financial one. Nottingham Forest and Feyenoord are still talking, but the number matters because every step up in the offer has to meet a club that has set its price above €30m.
That leaves the next move with Nottingham Forest. If the club chooses to match Feyenoord’s asking range, the route to the City Ground opens; if it does not, Read stays tied to De Kuip and the transfer waits.
