Wang Kai was found dead at a property in Taipei's Da'an District on Sunday, July 25, at age 43. The Taiwanese actor had finished filming at around 5pm on Saturday before leaving the set, then did not make it to the day's scheduled work on Bittersweet Destiny.
Bittersweet Destiny halted filming
SET received news of his death from his agent before that Sunday's filming, and the production stopped there. That leaves a longrunning primetime drama without one of its key cast members, with Wang Kai playing Xu Jinghan, the general manager for Asia in Seasons Global Group.
Wang Kai was not just a current cast member. He had been a familiar face on Taiwan's small screens since 2001, when he made his acting debut in Lavender, followed by Snow Angel in 2004, Mouse Loves Rice in 2006, and Breeze in the Love River in 2017.
Police found no injuries
Police officers responded to a distress call in Taipei's Da'an District and found Wang Kai lying unresponsive on the floor of a rooftop structure with no vital signs. Initial investigations found no signs of external injuries or forced entry, leaving the death without an immediate explanation.
Wang Kai's real name was Wang Chien-lung, and the gap between him leaving the set on Saturday and the police response on Sunday is the timeline that matters now.
