Adria Arjona is the insurance investigator who squares off with Michael B. Jordan’s art thief in the first trailer for The Thomas Crown Affair. The footage turns a long-planned project into a public pairing, with Jordan framing the film as a re-imagination rather than a remake or a reboot.
Michael B. Jordan’s re-imagination
Jordan said, “That’s a baby of mine that I’ve been wanting to make for a really long time, so I’m excited about it,” and added, “I think it’s not going to be what exactly people are expecting as well. When you’re re-imagining something, it’s not a remake. It’s not a reboot. It’s a re-imagination, and I’m really excited about it because I really care about this movie and its title.”
That distinction is not just packaging. The 1968 Thomas Crown Affair paired Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, and the 1999 version paired Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo; Jordan is signaling that his version will use the same chase-romance structure without copying either film beat for beat.
Adria Arjona versus the thief
Arjona plays the investigator smart enough to catch him, which gives the new film a cleaner dramatic engine than a simple caper. The trailer and the earlier CinemaCon footage both point to the same setup: a cat-and-mouse game between two leads who fall for each other while trying to outmaneuver one another.
Jordan said he wanted “the style, the rebellion, but giving him a real mission. So I needed somebody who could keep him on his toes. An actress who can portray strength and vulnerability. She understands his game but falls in love with him.” That choice puts Arjona at the center of the movie’s tension, not as decoration around the heist.
March 5, 2027 release
The film is scheduled for March 5, 2027, with Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk, and Aiysha Hart also in the cast. Jordan is producing and starring, and Jon Batiste is composing the score.
Jordan also says the character’s mission is personal, which is the part to watch: a thief with a revenge angle and an investigator who can read the game gives this version a sharper motive than a standard luxury-crooks premise. If the trailer is the first read on the movie’s business case, the next real question is simple: what exactly is driving him beyond the line, “Revenge is a work of art,” and whether that answer will justify the re-imagination when it reaches theaters in 2027.
